PROJECT DESCRIPTION

EC Specialist Contractors created a new staff welfare space within an existing room on Level 2 of the Lister Learning and Teaching Centre for the University of Edinburgh. The rest of the building remained live and occupied during the works.

The project was carried out in a partially occupied building so careful programming and detailed phasing of the works were employed to minimise the disruption to the building users and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders.

Particular consideration and planning was given the works in relation to protection of the public at all times throughout the duration of the works with all deliveries and movements of materials being undertaken daily in advance of the staff and students entering the building.

All the works took place without any disturbance to any of the occupied areas with all M&E service tie-ins and shutdowns getting carried out with normal hours.

We liaised with many stakeholders including the University estates team, adjacent building users, student representatives, academics, and end users.

We took a Soft Landings approach by involving end users throughout the construction process to provide information and education on the new M&E systems. We then delivered staged demonstrations to show how the systems should be operated to maximise comfort while minimising energy usage.
