PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We renovated the University’s main library including upgrading fire doors, improving accessibility, creating a child carer room for parent students, and creating a new secure laptop store.
The design of the child carer room was particularly innovative, creating a calming and secure environment for parents and carers to retreat to. The design included new floor coverings, a tea prep area, and and decoration including the installation of an artificial tree.
The fire upgrading works consisted of checking all the main pass doors for compliance with fire regulations and upgrading the doors as necessary to comply. The accessibly toilets got new grab rails, drop down rails and toilet seats including flush handles to the toilets.
The project was carried out in a live environment, requiring additional safety measures. Whenever we removed a fire door, we installed a temporary one to provide fire protection. Likewise when working on accessible toilets we provided other accessible toilets on the same floor level. When materials were required, our site team used radiocontrolled radios to communicate about the business of the delivery route so they could determine whether it was safe to move.
